Located in northwestern Hillsborough County, the City of St. Petersburg’s Cosme Water Treatment Plant property is home to Tampa Bay Water’s Cosme Wellfield and easements for the South Pasco Transmission Main and the Northwest Hillsborough Transmission Main. The South Pasco Transmission Main carries approximately 11 million gallons per day (mgd) of drinking water from the South Pasco Wellfield to the Lake Park and Cosme water treatment plants. The Northwest Hillsborough Transmission Main carries approximately 9 mgd of regional water to Hillsborough County’ s Northwest Hillsborough Water Treatment Plant. Currently, these two pipelines are not connected.
This project involves installing new yard piping to permanently connect the South Pasco Transmission Main to the Northwest Hillsborough Transmission Main.
This project will ensure water quality and reliable supply to the Northwest Water Treatment Plant during planned shutdowns of the Cosme Water Treatment Plant. Connecting the two transmission mains upstream of the Cosme Water Treatment Plant point of connection will allow continued usage of the South Pasco Transmission Main, keeping water in the transmission main moving and fresh. (During planned shutdowns, the City of St. Petersburg is supplied via its Cosme Transmission Main).
The budget for this project is approximately $1.01 million for design and construction.
Construction will begin in October 2025 and is scheduled to be completed in early 2026.
All work will be contained to the City of St. Petersburg’s Cosme Water Treatment Plant. Nearby neighbors may see an increase in traffic on Race Track Road for material and equipment deliveries. Residents adjacent to the northern end of the plant property may hear noise associated with construction during the day on weekdays.
